After digesting those inputs I chose to look at the 23 Channel units since many of these radios use Crystal Synthesizers. With crystals that raised the possibly to utilize commonly available inexpensive Computer Crystals to move the frequency to 10 Meters. The typical crystal synthesizers uses two banks of crystals arranged in a bank of four and bank of six arrays. The bandswitch is arranged so that the first crystal in the bank of six is mixed with the four crystals in succession so that at initiation that would give channels 1 to 4. Then the second crystal in the bank of six is mixed in succession with the four crystals to give channels 5 to 8. Interestingly the first three crystals in the bank of four are separated by 10 kHz but the last channel is 20 kHz. Typical frequencies for the banks of crystals were in the 11 MHz range for the bank of six and in the 7 to 8 MHz range for the bank of four. One popular SSB generation scheme used by many manufacturers was to employ a 7.8 MHz Crystal Filter and the carrier frequency was generated at 7.8025 MHz which typically gives an Lower Sideband output when used in an additive mixer stage. To switch between USB and LSB, in lieu of using two crystals, injection Frequencies 7.8025 MHz above and below the desired operating frequency are generated. Thus the mixing process in receive and transmit was shifted to LSB or USB depending on whether the Local Oscillator was above or below the Intermediate Frequency (IF). Typically in the CB mode for USB a mixing frequency at 34 MHz was used and for LSB and AM 19 MHz was used as the Local Oscillator. CONDITION: The Pace 1000M sidekick is in good preowned condition and has been tested to work but could use some TLC. In most cases the service info consists of: easy-to-read schematic diagrams, receiver alignment instructions, transmitter adjustment & alignment data, troubleshooting tips, repair procedures, 'how it works' explainations, synthesizer frequency tables and parts lists. Its volume is still plenty loud and Its backlighting still shines brightly illuminating the control knobs and front face of the CB in areas.160 Its missing the 3 knobs on the front left turning posts but the posts still works well adjusting the volume and squelch etc. w holes on bottom black plastic from mounting and the usual dust, light scratches and wear marks you would expect from daily use.160 The Mic is being included since it is the mic that came hooked to this unit and it can still be used but needs either replacing or to be fixed as it is not easily functioning.160 Cosmetically the mic could use a cover or outer casing to replace the broken and missing back piece and of course the side trigger needs replacing although it can be engaged by pressing the remaining inner piece of the talk button down.On the bottom of CB there is a selector knob that has no label so i dont know its function.160 The knob has 11 different positions that you can feel as you click through them but It doesn't seem to do anything while powered on so I am not sure if it was done by original owner or came like this but it is there and one person said it may switch between high and low channels but I don't know how to check160 if thats it.Any questions please ask and check back later in week for new photos once CB and mic has been cleaned thoroughly.Returns:I am selling this unit As- Is in working condition with the handset mic included as a bonus that does function but not as intended so please be sure to view all photos and read the description before deciding if this bundle is what your looking for before purchasing. No returns on this unit unless it arrives with a significant difference to the listing description. I do have a few other CB Radio components i will be posting on eBay like a vintage GE magnetic Microphone in good shape, a midland hand held 77-912 CB Radio and magnetic antennae mount as well as a6 few other items all in great shape so please check out what else I have to offer by clicking on sellers other items and take advantage of combined shipping. ![]()
